Trio Punches Clock for "24"

Jack is back. And he's bringing some friends with him.
The Fox hit 24 is dusting off the welcome mat for three more veteran actors this season, with Peter Weller, JoBeth Williams and Julian Sands joining the ever-revolving cast, the network announced Friday When viewers last saw Kiefer Sutherland's rogue agent Jack Bauer, he was dropped off south of the border, handed a new identity and warned not to return to the U.S.
The new season, Day 5 in Bauer-land, kicks off 18 months later, with national security once again "brutally breached."
The presumed-dead Bauer has taken up a new life with his girlfriend and her son, played by previously announced newcomers Connie Britton and Brady Corbett, respectively. Which is where the series' latest additions come in.
While Fox is remaining mum on any plot details, it has confirmed that Robocop thesp Weller has signed on as federal agent Christopher Henderson, the man responsible for recruiting Bauer to the CTU more than a decade ago. Three-time Emmy nominee, and recent Fever Pitch actress, Williams plays his wife.
As for veteran British actor Sands, of Time Code and A Room with a View fame, producers have simply tagged him "billionaire bad guy" Vladimir Bierko.
But the cozy threesome aren't the only new faces popping up on the prime-time hit this season.
Earlier this year, Fox announced several high-profile new additions to the time-sensitive drama.
In addition to Britton and Corbet, erstwhile Hobbit Sean Astin joins the clock-ticker as a regular this season, playing a fellow Counter Terrorist Unit agent.
Former Designing Woman Jean Smart rounds out the new ensemble as the first lady.
24's fifth day kicks off with a four-hour, two-night premiere Jan. 15 and 16 on Fox, which will mark the series' 100th episode.

Lions Gate Home Entertainment just gave Fango the scoop that it has set video release dates for two of its most-awaited titles. The Spanish Julian Sands-starring lycanthro-opus ROMASANTA (pictured), now called WEREWOLF HUNTER: THE LEGEND OF ROMASANTA, will arrive November 22, and CREEP, the British chiller about a woman (Franka Potente) stalked through the London underground by a semihuman monster, hits December 13. The latter will first play conventions and festivals to build buzz, but details on these have not been confirmed yet, nor have the DVD contents for either title. Carradine and Sands to Play Bush and Blair in LA Premiere of Stuff Happens by Cara Joy David

Keith Carradine will play President Bush and Julian Sands will be Prime Minister Tony Blair in the American premiere of David Hare's Stuff Happens. The show, directed by Gordon Davidson, will begin performances at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles on May 25 and is scheduled to run through July 17, 2005. Carradine was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in The Will Rogers Follies. His other Broadway credits include Hair and Foxfire. His film credits include McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Hex, Thieves Like Us, Nashville, Welcome to L.A., The Duellists, Pretty Baby, The Long Riders, Trouble in Mind, Maria's Lovers, Backfire, The Moderns, Street of No Return, Andre, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, Wild Bill, A Thousand Acres and The Californians. He also received an Oscar for Nashville's "I'm Easy." Carradine was recently seen on the small screen in the series Complete Savages.

Born in England, Sands' first big break came when he landed a role in the 1983 television movie A Married Man alongside Anthony Hopkins. The following year he garnered attention for his performance in the film The Killing Fields. His subsequent film credits include A Room with a View, Gothic, Vibes, Wherever You Are, Arachnophobia, Naked Lunch, Leaving Las Vegas, One Night Stand, The Loss of Sexual Innocence, Timcode and Her Name is Carla. The American Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's famous response to the looting of Baghdad at a press conference on April 11, 2003 provides the title for this new play, which was specially written for the National Theatre in London (where it premiered last year). From events that have dominated international headlines for the last two years, Hare has fashioned both a historical narrative and a human drama about the frustrations of power and the limits of diplomacy.
In addition to Carradine and Sands, the Los Angeles company will include Tyrees Allen, Henry Brown, Jane Carr, Mitchell Edmonds, Kip Gilman, James Handy, Jay Harik, John Michael Higgins, Brian George, James Gleason, Francis Guinan, Anna Khaja, John Rafter Lee, Dakin Matthews, Paul Messinger, Alan Oppenheimer, Stephen Spinella, Lorraine Toussaint, Inger Tudor and John Vickery.
Stuff Happens is scheduled to officially open June 5.
Along with improbable plot twists, another "24" trademark is loading up each season with a bunch of new characters. Here's a look at the new faces who will be making Jack Bauer's life more interesting in Season Five:
